Westgate Pottery was established in South Devon in 2019 having moved from Norfolk two years earlier. We have a great location overlooking the sea, the Teign estuary and Dartmoor ...... the light and atmosphere directly influencing the design of the Moorland range of pots, with the blue/green colour of the sea on the standard tableware range.
I really enjoy making functional tableware which is good to look at and comfortable in the hand. My pots are once fired to stoneware temperature (1230C), making them robust for everyday use at the table.
There are two styles .... the Seagreen range which uses my own recipe glaze inside and outside the pot. The Moorland range having the seagreen glaze on the inside and rim, then a mix of oxides and colours on the outside.

I first came across clay and making pots at school, then later at Art College in Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. From there I was apprenticed at Le Dieu Pottery in Norwich for almost five years, working up from mixing clay to throwing small to medium sized pots. I always wanted to learn more so during my two week summer holiday, I worked for Ray Finch at Winchcombe pottery, absorbing the way a master potter approached his work.
